RHD (UK): Driver's footwell on the right, in the vertical lower trim panel directly above the pedals and immediately alongside the bonnet release lever — the same moulded panel the bonnet pull is screwed into. Sit in the seat, look down and slightly right and it is at knee height, roughly level with the top of the accelerator. LHD: mirrored to the left of the steering column, above the footrest, again beside the bonnet release. Identical on every F15 trim — SE, M Sport, xLine and the F85 X5 M all place it in the same panel, and the 7-seat and xDrive40e plug-in cars are no different.
The 16-pin socket sits in a moulded rectangular frame in the trim panel. Many F15s carry a small black clip-in cap over it — hook a fingernail or a trim tool under the lower lip and it pops straight out, no fasteners. Plenty of cars have lost the cap, in which case the connector is bare and you can plug straight in. Do not lever on the bonnet release surround itself; the panel is retained by two hidden clips and a screw behind the bonnet handle and it will crack before it lets go.
