LHD (all US cars): driver's footwell, on the underside of the lower dash trim just left of the steering column, directly above the left footrest and to the left of the clutch/brake pedal, near the bonnet (hood) release. The 16-pin socket (often purple) faces down and is exposed — no flap. Same position on Golf, GTI, Golf R, SportWagen, Alltrack and e-Golf, pre- and post-2018 facelift.
