Diagnostic port location (OBD)
RHD (UK): driver's side of the dash, low down and outboard of the steering column in the driver's panel bolster. The 16-pin socket sits inside the same recess as the cabin fuse panel, so the pull-off lid marked 'Fuse/OBD' is the landmark — not the bonnet release, which is further inboard. LHD: mirror image, low down to the left of the steering column in the same fuse recess. Hyundai prints separate left- and right-hand-drive illustrations of this panel, so it genuinely swaps sides with the driver rather than staying put. Identical on every PD body — 5-door hatch, Fastback and Tourer — on every trim from S up to N Performance, and unchanged by the 2020 facelift.
One-piece plastic compartment cover marked 'Fuse/OBD'. Grip the moulded edge and pull it straight off towards you — no tools, no screws. The 16-pin connector is immediately visible inside the recess alongside the fuse rows, and there is enough depth behind it for a bulky VCI. Worth knowing before you blame the tool: the socket's own supply comes off the 7.5A MODULE 1 fuse in that same panel, so if you get no power on pin 16 or a dead link, check that fuse first — it also feeds the hazard switch and the door modules, which is a quick way to confirm it.
