RHD (UK): driver's footwell on the right, set into the vertical side trim panel on the door side rather than under the dash — roughly an inch above the bonnet release lever, behind a small black trim cover. Sit in the driver's seat, find the bonnet release and look just above it. The position is the same on the M2, the M2 Competition and the CS, and is shared with the rest of the F22/F23 2 Series. LHD: not in the side panel at all — the socket sits up on top of the driver's kick panel, hanging vertically and completely exposed, which is why left-hand-drive cars have no cover fitted. Never look for the RHD socket where an LHD diagram shows it.
RHD cars have a small black plastic OBD cover clipped into the footwell side panel (BMW 51437272621 and its supersessions, shared across the F20/F22/F30 range). Prise the edge away with a fingernail or a plastic trim tool — there are no fixings and nothing to unscrew — and the 16-pin connector is immediately behind it, facing into the footwell. LHD cars have no cover: look upwards at the top of the kick panel with a torch, the connector faces down. If the socket pushes back into the trim when you try to plug in, the mount has been disturbed or a tracker pass-through lead has been fitted behind it; two bolts release the lower panel so you can get behind and reseat it.
