Not in the side panel at all — the socket sits up on top of the driver's kick panel, hanging vertically and completely exposed, which is why left-hand-drive cars have no cover fitted. The position is the same on the M2, the M2 Competition and the CS, and is shared with the rest of the F22/F23 2 Series.
LHD cars have no cover: look upwards at the top of the kick panel with a torch, the connector faces down. If the socket pushes back into the trim when you try to plug in, the mount has been disturbed or a tracker pass-through lead has been fitted behind it; two bolts release the lower panel so you can get behind and reseat it.
