LHD (all US cars): driver's footwell, under the lower edge of the dashboard on the door side of the steering column, in the same area as the hood (bonnet) release lever. Kneel in the driver's door opening and look up under the dash edge to the left of the column to find the 16-pin socket. The position is not reported to differ between 530i, 540i, 530e and M550i, or between pre-facelift and 2021-on facelift cars. Keep a battery support unit connected while you work here: the car drops voltage quickly with the ignition on.
