Location

Lower dashboard on the driver's side, inside the dashboard fusebox compartment. Open the small cubby/storage pocket low on the dash beside the steering column, undo the two crosshead screws below it and drop the fusebox cover — the 16-pin connector sits behind a rubber blanking cap with a yellow centre, right next to the cab fuses. The location is the same across panel van, chassis cab and motorhome-base trims, though on camper conversions the converter sometimes fits trim over the cubby that has to come off first.

How to access

Open the lower dashboard cubby/storage tray, undo the two crosshead screws beneath it and remove the fusebox cover panel. The OBD socket is capped with a rubber plug that has a yellow centre — pull the cap off and the 16-pin connector is exposed beside the cabin fuses. No special tools beyond a crosshead screwdriver. Note the diagnostic socket on these vans is policed by a Security Gateway: on most 2021-onwards builds a separate SGW module sits behind the glovebox, and on later builds the gateway is folded into the BCM. Plain OBD reads/clears may pass, but immobiliser work does not go through this socket (see the programming notes).

Type 250

Illustration — use it to know where to look.

Location

Driver's side lower dashboard. Behind a small hinged cover secured by two crosshead screws, located to the left of the steering column below the fuse box. Remove both screws, open the panel, and the OBD2 port is visible inside. The port may have a rubber cap with a yellow centre on Type 290 (2014+). Same general location on both Type 250 (2006-2014) and Type 290 (2014-2024).

OBD port location in a Fiat Ducato Type 244

Type 244 (X244) 2002–2006

RHD (UK vans, chassis cabs and UK-registered coachbuilt motorhomes): sit in the driver's seat and look under the lower dash to the RIGHT of the steering column, inboard of the right-hand cab fusebox. The 16-pin socket sits in a fixed mounting plate at the back of the recess behind the lower-dash cover - it does not hang loose in the loom, so if you are feeling a dangling plug you are in the wrong place. LHD (mainland European vans and most German-built Hymer conversions): mirror image, under the lower dash to the LEFT of the steering column beside the left-hand cab fusebox, behind the same cover. Position is the same across panel van, chassis cab and Camping Car bodywork versions, because the coachbuilder does not touch the cab dash. One trap: a van first registered around 2002 can still be the outgoing Type 230, which has no under-dash 16-pin socket at all - it uses a 3-pin Fiat diagnostic plug under the bonnet. Check the chassis marking on the wheelhouse by the passenger seat reads ZFA 244 before you quote an under-dash job.
