LHD: driver's footwell, low down beside the left A-pillar and just outboard of the pedals, behind the plastic trim panel on the left-hand end of the lower dash. The 16-pin socket sits on a bracket alongside the fuse carriers. RHD (UK vans): it does not mirror. The factory installation drawings put the diagnostic connector on the vehicle's left A-pillar, and the battery recess, fuse and relay box and onboard supply control unit all stay on the vehicle's left whichever side the steering wheel is on, so on a UK van you are looking in the nearside (passenger) footwell at the bottom of the left A-pillar, not next to the driver's right knee. Check the nearside first; if a converter or an old tracker fit has moved things, work along the lower dash to the offside end. Same position across panel van, chassis cab, dropside, Kombi and minibus.
