All Japanese-market 2nd-gen Swifts are right-hand drive. The 16-pin socket is in the driver's footwell, under the lower lip of the dashboard within about a hand's width of the steering column, facing down. Sources split on which side of the column it sits: the manufacturer fitment data for the 2004/11-2007/05 ZC11S puts it inboard, to the left of the column towards the centre console and above the bonnet-release lever, while workshop data for the ZC21S puts it outboard, to the right of the column towards the door sill. Run a hand along the underside of the dash from the console outwards and you will meet it either way. Position is the same on every grade including the Swift Sport (ZC31S), and fitting the twist-knob keyless-start system does not move it. On the left-hand-drive European and Indian cars the whole arrangement is mirrored to the driver's side of a LHD dash.
