Location

RHD (UK): driver's footwell on the right-hand side, directly underneath the steering column, behind the small plastic panel that forms the underside of the column shroud where it meets the lower dash. The 16-pin socket faces down and slightly rearward and sits roughly level with the top of the brake pedal, just inboard of the door pillar trim. Same position on every X83 body style — panel van, crew van, Combi, Minibus and platform cab — and it does not move between the 2002-2006 vans and the 2007-on facelift. LHD: mirrored to the left-hand side, same panel underneath the steering column, same socket orientation.

How to access

Small unmarked plastic panel on the underside of the steering column shroud. On most vans it unclips — get a fingernail or trim tool under the top edge and flip it downward, no tools needed. A few of the earliest 2002-2004 vans have the same panel retained by a single screw at the rear edge, so look before you pull or you will snap the tab. The 16-pin connector is visible immediately once the panel is off; there is no need to reach up behind the dash.
