Location

RHD (UK): driver's footwell, tucked up under the lower dash on the inboard side of the steering column — between the column and the centre stack, directly above the left-hand footrest and alongside the cabin fuse box. The 16-pin socket faces down and slightly rearward, so from the driver's seat you feel it before you see it; kneel in the door aperture, look up past the bonnet-release area and it comes into view. Same position on every UK trim, three-door and five-door, from 2007 right through to the run-out cars. LHD: the same relationship to the column but mirrored — under the lower dash on the inboard (right-hand) side of the steering column, again above the footrest and next to the fuse box. On either drive side it is a column-side socket: do not go hunting on the centre console or above the accelerator.

How to access

No hinged OBD flap and nothing labelled 'OBD'. The socket sits up behind the small lower knee trim panel next to the column — the piece that borders the fuse box lid. A slim OBD lead plugs straight in by feel. For a bulky VCI, or for a clear view, drop that knee panel: two crosshead screws plus locating clips, then ease it away with a trim tool rather than levering against the dash. Do not mistake the fuse box lid for a socket cover — the fuse box has its own separate lid.
