Location

Centre console, right down at the base beside the handbrake lever and below the gear lever — not on the dash and not beside the steering column. The socket sits on the side face of the console next to the 12V/cigarette-lighter socket and the small oddment pocket, behind a clip-out plastic panel. On left-hand-drive vans it faces the passenger side of the handbrake. Because it is console-mounted rather than dash-mounted it does not swap to the other side of the column on right-hand-drive vans — you still reach into the middle of the cab; if it is not on the face you are looking at, check the opposite face of the same console panel. Same position on every body style: panel van, Mixto, Kombi and Tourer, and unchanged by the 2019 update.

How to access

Small clip-in plastic side panel on the console next to the 12V socket. It pops off by hand — get a fingernail or a plastic trim wedge into the seam at the top edge and pull it straight out. A thin screwdriver helps on vans where the clips have stiffened with age, but do not lever against the console skin. The 16-pin connector is right behind the panel, facing sideways, and you can plug straight in without removing anything else.
