Illustrative — for orientation only.
At the outboard left-hand end of the dashboard, behind the dash-end speaker grille, sitting in line with the cabin fuse board. It is the same physical spot on both left- and right-hand-drive cabs, so on a UK right-hand-drive Daily it lands on the nearside — the passenger's end of the dash, not under the steering column — while on a left-hand-drive van the same panel sits outboard of the steering wheel towards the driver's door. The 16-pin socket is not bracketed to the dash: it hangs on a short flying lead and is usually tucked back and slightly high alongside the fuse box, which is why people stare straight into the opening and miss it. The position is the same across panel van, chassis cab, crew cab and minibus — the cab structure is common to all of them; only the body-builder trim in front of it varies.
The speaker grille at the end of the dashboard has to come off first — two or four cross-head or Torx screws depending on build. Take it slowly: the speaker is wired to the back of the grille, so ease the panel forward an inch and unplug the speaker before you lift it clear. With the grille off you are looking straight at the cabin fuse board, and the 16-pin connector is on its short lead tucked back beside it, normally to the left of the fuses and higher than you expect. Get your head down into the footwell and look up and behind the fuse board rather than groping around at floor level.
