Location

RHD (UK): driver's footwell, directly under the steering column above the driver's knees — from the seat it reads as the bottom right of the wheel rim, roughly above the accelerator pedal. It sits behind a small clip-on plastic hatch let into the underside of the lower column trim, next to the pull-out storage drawer, so it is not visible until the hatch is off. Same position on all trims, 5-seat and 7-seat, before and after the 2016 facelift, and it does not move when the car is rebadged Grand C4 SpaceTourer in 2018. LHD: identical position under the steering column above the accelerator — the socket does not swap sides between markets, so do not go hunting on the far side of the cabin. One exception worth knowing before you start pulling trim: a minority of early (2013-2014) cars are reported with the socket inside the glovebox on the right-hand side wall instead, behind a similar clip-on cover — if the column hatch is empty, open the glovebox before assuming a fault.

How to access

Small clip-on plastic hatch in the underside of the lower steering-column trim. There is no pull tab and no label — the only purchase is a narrow slot along the rear edge of the hatch. Slide a thin flat-blade screwdriver or a plastic trim tool into that slot and lever the hatch out; it releases on clips and takes no force. The 16-pin connector is immediately visible once the hatch is off, facing downwards, so you plug in from underneath rather than head-on. Drop the seat back and raise the wheel first — there is very little knee room to work in. On the glovebox-mounted cars the cover is the same clip-on type on the right-hand side wall and comes off the same way.
