RHD (UK): Driver's footwell, low down beneath the steering column, tucked into the side of the cabin fuse box housing on the right. The 16-pin connector sits inside the fuse box assembly rather than out in the open, just above the pedals. LHD: Same arrangement mirrored to the left of the steering column, inside the cabin fuse box housing on the driver's side. Location is consistent across all Mk2 trims.
There is a clip-on plastic cover over the fuse box/socket area. Prise it off starting at one corner (it releases on a few clips) by hand, no tools needed. The 16-pin socket is recessed inside next to the fuse bank, so reach in slightly once the cover is off.
