Location
Driver's footwell, under the lower dashboard, beneath the steering column. Behind a small plastic cover/flap that clips shut. On UK (RHD) vehicles the port is on the right side of the cabin in the equivalent position — accessible by crouching at the driver's door and reaching under the dash toward the steering column. No tool required to open the cover.
No diagram for this one yet. Ask for one and we'll draw it. The more requests, the sooner.

Location
RHD (UK and Ireland): driver's footwell, on the underside of the lower dash panel to the right of the steering column, roughly straight above the accelerator pedal and just below the knee bolster. The 16-pin socket faces down, so you find it by kneeling at the driver's door and looking up with a torch; your right foot will knock a plug left in it, so use a short extension lead for long jobs. LHD (continental Europe): the mirror position, under the lower dash to the left of the pedal box, above the footrest and next to the clutch pedal. Same position on One, Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S, Cooper SD and John Cooper Works hatches; the R55 Clubman and R57 Convertible use the same dash and socket position.
How to access
Many cars have a small plastic cover over the socket (a push-on cap or small flap in the lower trim, sometimes marked OBD). Pull or prise it off by hand; the emergency key blade makes a good lever if it is stiff. No tools needed. Some later facelift cars have the socket exposed with no cover.
