RHD (UK): driver's footwell, on the door side of the steering column, tucked high under the lower edge of the dash and set forward — sight up from the driver's seat and the 16-pin socket faces down at you from directly above the accelerator pedal. It is far enough back that most people feel for it before they see it. LHD: the mirrored position, left of the steering column above the footrest. Same place on every G30 saloon, G31 Touring and F90 M5, SE through M Sport, and unchanged by the 2020 facelift. The socket is exposed and points downward — there is no lid, flap or trim to unclip before plugging in.

Illustration — use it to know where to look.
Driver's footwell on both LHD and RHD cars, tucked up under the lower edge of the dashboard above the footrest, on the kick-panel side nearest the door. LHD: left of the steering column, above the dead pedal/footrest. RHD: right of the steering column (door side), above the footrest. The 16-pin connector faces down and slightly towards the seat, so you reach up and back from the driver's seat rather than seeing it head-on. Same position across all F10 saloon and F11 Touring trims including M5; no difference between Standard, SE, M Sport, or Luxury.
