Location

LHD: driver's footwell, high up under the dash on the door side, just outboard of the steering column above the pedals, behind a small clip-off plastic cover. RHD (UK): mirror image — driver's footwell on the right, door side, behind the same clip-off cover near the bonnet-release lever. Same position across all F20 (5-door) and F21 (3-door) trims.

OBD port location in a BMW 1 Series E87 LCI

E87 LCI (E87N) 2007–2011

RHD (UK cars): driver's footwell on the outboard side. The 16-pin socket sits at the base of the right-hand A-pillar, recessed into the footwell side trim panel roughly level with the driver's right shin, immediately above and behind the bonnet release lever — it is outboard of the steering column, not tucked under the middle of the dash, so looking straight up under the wheel will miss it. Kneel outside the open driver's door and look up into the corner where the kick panel meets the A-pillar. Same position on every body in this range — E81 three-door, E82 coupe, E87/E87N five-door and E88 convertible — and on every trim including M Sport and the 123d. LHD cars: mirrored, at the base of the left-hand A-pillar in the same relationship to the bonnet release.
