RHD (UK vans): driver's side, under the lower lip of the dashboard just to the right of the steering column and directly above the pedals. Sit in the driver's seat, drop your hand past the column and you are feeling for the 16-pin socket on the underside of the dash facing down and back at you — it is not up behind the instrument binnacle and not in the centre console. LHD: mirrored to the driver's side, under the lower dash to the left of the column above the pedals. Same position on panel van, Kombi, chassis cab, dropside, tipper and Luton, because the cab and dash are identical across the body range and only the rear body changes. Do not go hunting on the nearside: the fuse and relay carriers and the onboard supply control unit stay on the vehicle's left in both LHD and RHD builds, so on a UK van the electrics live on the passenger side while the diagnostic socket stays with the driver. Two local warnings. This is the opposite of the first-generation Crafter, where the socket sits low at the left A-pillar in the nearside footwell, so if you plug in on the driver's side and find nothing, check whether you are actually standing at a 2E. And on ex-fleet vans expect a tracker or tachograph piggyback lead already in the socket — unplug it rather than doubling up, because a second device chattering on the bus will drop a key-learning session.
