2nd generation (SAIC-built, ZP11). UK sales from September 2013, facelifted September 2018, run out in early 2024 when the all-new MG3 Hybrid+ replaced it. This is the Chinese-era MG3 and it has nothing in common with the Rover-era MG ZR, MG TF or the 1990s MG3 badge: no MEMS, no 5AS, no Pektron security control unit and no BMW EWS. It is also not the 2024-on Hybrid+, which is a different car with a proximity key.

RHD (UK): driver's side, under the right-hand end of the fascia, up behind the bottom lip of the dash just outboard of the steering column and above the pedal box, facing downwards. You will not see it from the seat — kneel in the driver's door aperture, put a torch on it and feel up past the bottom edge of the dash and the 16-pin socket is there. Same position on every trim and on both sides of the 2018 facelift, from a base 3Time to an Exclusive Nav, because the fascia carrier carried over. Do not start hunting on the passenger side: the thing that lives behind a closing panel under the passenger glovebox is the interior fuse box, and on this car it is on the opposite side of the cabin from the diagnostic socket. LHD: mirrored to the left-hand end of the fascia in the same place under the column.
