RHD (UK): Driver's footwell, lower edge of the dashboard on the right-hand side, immediately beside the bonnet release lever and above the pedals. The 16-pin connector faces down behind a small plastic cover. LHD: Driver's footwell, lower edge of the dashboard on the left-hand side, again right next to the bonnet release lever above the pedals. Same position on all W209 trims — coupe (C209), cabriolet (A209), and across CLK200 through CLK63 AMG.
Small unmarked plastic cover on the underside of the dashboard trim next to the bonnet release. Pull it down with your fingers — no tools required. The 16-pin connector is angled downward and visible immediately once the cover is dropped. Note the separate round 38-pin Mercedes diagnostic socket in the engine bay is not used for key work on this generation; key programming is done on the 16-pin OBD socket or directly on the EIS.
