LHD (every US car): driver's footwell, under the lower edge of the dashboard to the left of the steering column, directly above the pedals and right beside the red hood release handle. Find the hood release first; the 16-pin socket is in front of it in the same lower dash panel, behind a small plate, and sits a long way up and back under the dash, so use a torch. Same position on the sedan, coupe and cabriolet, on AMG models, and before and after the MY2019 facelift.
Small plastic flip-down plate on the lower dash panel next to the hood release. Hook a fingernail under its edge and pull it down towards you, no tools needed. The 16-pin connector is behind it, set deep and angled upward. On some cars the plate is already missing and the socket is exposed.
