RHD (UK vans): driver's footwell, on the right of the pedal box directly above the footrest, so you are looking up at it from the seat rather than down. The 16-pin socket faces rearwards and is exposed — no flap, no coin tray, nothing to prise off. LHD: mirror image, driver's footwell to the left of the pedals and again immediately above the footrest. Position is the same across panel van, chassis cab, dropside, Kombi and minibus bodies; the only vans where it is awkward are camper and welfare conversions where a bodybuilder has boxed in the footwell or added a lower trim panel that has to come off first.
