Illustration — use it to know where to look.
Driver's side, under the lower dash panel beside the steering column, in the same area as the interior fuse panel cover by the driver's knee. The 16-pin socket sits at the bottom edge of the lower dash trim and points down towards the pedals, so kneel at the driver's door and look up with a torch. Same position on Active, Go, Active X, Elite and Highlander. Australian cars are right-hand drive, so the driver's side is the right-hand side of the car; the exact spot either side of the column on Australian cars is still being checked, so feel along the lower dash edge on both sides of the column if it is not where you first look.
On some cars the socket is behind the small clip-on lower dash cover marked OBD (on others it is in the fuse panel cover area). Pull the cover straight off by hand, no tools needed; the socket is visible straight away behind it.
