Driver's side footwell, under the left edge of the dashboard near the steering column. No cover required — plug is accessible without removing any trim.

Under the bottom of the dash on the driver's side, left of the steering column. It is below the interior fuse panel, which sits on the lower left of the instrument panel. The 16-pin connector faces down into the footwell. Same position on turn-key and push-button trims.
Also on this Sonata
Under the bottom lip of the lower dash panel, slightly left of the steering column and just to the right of the fuse panel cover, above the driver's left knee. The 16-pin DLC is mounted on a steel bracket and points straight down at the floor, so you will not see it sitting in the seat - run your fingertips along the underside of the panel. Same position on all YF petrol trims; on the Sonata Hybrid it is not in the fuse recess either, look under the lower dash edge.
