VE

Illustration — use it to know where to look.

Location

Right-hand drive only (every VE was built in Adelaide for Australia and New Zealand). The 16-pin socket is on the driver's side, moulded into the underside of the lower dash panel below the steering column, roughly 10-15 cm further back from the bonnet release lever. It faces down, so kneel at the driver's door with a torch and look up past the bonnet release rather than looking for it from the seat. Same position on sedan, Sportwagon and ute bodies.

VZ

Illustration — use it to know where to look.

Location

Right-hand drive only — every VZ was built RHD in Adelaide for Australia and New Zealand, so there is no left-hand-drive position to worry about. The 16-pin socket is on the driver's side under the lower dash, below the steering column and above the pedal box, sitting roughly in line with the brake pedal. The hinged main fuse panel drops down from the instrument panel immediately above it, which is the landmark to aim for — find the fuse flap and the diagnostic socket is just below and behind it. Same position on every VZ body: sedan, wagon, ute, Crewman, One Tonner, Adventra and Monaro, and on the WL Statesman and Caprice.

OBD port location in a Holden Commodore VY

VY 2002–2004

Right-hand-drive only (Holden was never sold LHD): driver's side, directly beneath the steering column above the pedals, built into the main dashboard fuse panel. You get to it by pulling down the hinged drop-down plastic cover/shroud under the steering wheel — the 16-pin socket sits behind it. Same position across all VY bodystyles (sedan, wagon, Ute) and trims.

OBD port location in a Holden Commodore VT/VX

VT/VX 1997–2002

RHD: Driver's footwell (right-hand side), under the dashboard above the pedals, directly behind and slightly inboard of the bonnet release lever. The 16-pin connector faces downward and is dark-coloured, blending with the dash trim. Same position on all VT and VX trims including Executive, Acclaim, S, SS, Berlina, and Calais.
