Location

Passenger side of the cab, in the lower dashboard directly in front of the passenger's feet, in the passenger footwell. The 16-pin diagnostic socket (factory reference X100.16) sits behind the lower trim panel beside the glovebox, not out in the open cab. The fuse/SAM box shares this same passenger-foot compartment. This location is consistent across Actros MP4 tractor units and rigids, and the cab layout is the same in left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive trucks, so on a UK right-hand-drive Actros you still go to the passenger (left) side, not the driver's side. It is the truck diagnostic socket, not a car-style under-steering-column port.

How to access

Pull off the plastic side moulding on the lower dash beside the glovebox, then remove the side cover panel to reach the connector. On EURO5/early MP4 this is the 14-pin Mercedes truck/bus proprietary diagnostic connector (a 14-to-16-pin adapter is needed for most aftermarket leads); on EURO6/SFTP MP4 it is the 16-pin connector. The socket is not exposed in the open cab — the lower trim must be removed first. No special tools beyond a trim pry; some trucks have a thumb-screw on the side cover.
