CR2016 vs CR2032: what's the difference?
Same width, same 3 volts. The CR2032 is twice as thick and holds more than twice the charge. They aren't swaps for each other. A CR2032 won't fit a key built for a CR2016, and a CR2016 sits loose in a CR2032 key.

Questions
CR2016 or CR2032?
No. It's 1.6 mm thicker, so the case won't close and you risk bending the contacts. Get a CR2016.
Not reliably. It's half the thickness, so it rattles and loses contact, and it runs flat much sooner. Get the cell your key is built for.
It's printed on the old cell. Or look your car up on the key battery finder.
